Summary: Summarize Slider processes webpage content locally and via secure API calls to generate summaries. We do not collect personal information, track users, or share data with third parties beyond the AI providers necessary for summarization.

1. Information We Collect

Summarize Slider collects and processes the following information:

  • Webpage Content: Text content from webpages you choose to summarize

  • API Keys: AI provider API keys you optionally provide (stored encrypted locally)

  • Usage Data: Count of summaries generated using system default models (maximum 25 per month)

  • Preferences: Your selected complexity levels and AI provider preferences

  • Generated Summaries: Summaries created by AI providers (stored locally per browser tab)

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

  • Generate AI-powered summaries of webpage content

  • Remember your preferences and settings

  • Track usage limits for system default models

  • Provide personalized summarization experiences

3. Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

  • API Keys: Encrypted using base64 encoding and stored in Chrome's secure storage

  • Summaries: Stored locally per browser tab and automatically cleared when tabs are closed

  • Preferences: Stored in Chrome's local storage for persistence across sessions

  • Usage Counters: Stored locally to track monthly usage limits

External Processing

  • Summarization API: Webpage content is sent to our secure backend (v0-chromium-summarizer-extension.vercel.app) hosted on Vercel

  • AI Providers: Content is processed by AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, X.AI) according to their respective privacy policies

  • Encryption in Transit: All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption

4. Third-Party Services

When you use Summarize Slider, your content may be processed by the following AI providers:

Each provider processes content according to their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing these policies if you have specific privacy concerns about AI processing.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties except:

  • AI Providers: Webpage content is shared with selected AI providers solely for summarization

  • Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety

  • Service Providers: Technical infrastructure providers (Vercel) who assist in delivering our service

6. Your Privacy Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • API Key Management: Add, edit, or delete your API keys at any time

  • Data Deletion: Clear summaries and preferences by removing the extension

  • Usage Control: Choose which AI providers to use for processing

  • Opt-out: Use your own API keys to avoid system default processing

7. Data Retention

  • Summaries: Automatically deleted when browser tabs are closed

  • API Keys: Stored until you manually delete them

  • Preferences: Stored until you uninstall the extension

  • Usage Counters: Reset monthly and cleared on extension removal

8. Children's Privacy

Summarize Slider is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including the United States (Vercel hosting) and locations where AI providers operate their services. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension interface.

12. Browser Permissions Explanation

Summarize Slider requests the following permissions:

  • Host permissions: To communicate with our summarization API and AI providers

These permissions are used solely for the functionality described in this privacy policy and are not used for tracking, advertising, or other purposes.
